IIHF World Under-18 Championship: Canada aims for final

The Canadian team will try to remain perfect at the IIHF Under-18 World Cup. Canada, which easily defeated Latvia 4-0 in the quarterfinals, is aiming for the gold medal game as it meets Sweden in the semifinals for a second consecutive year.

Sweden defeated host Finland 2-1 in the quarter-finals.

Canada defeated Sweden 6-3 in the preliminary round, but the Swedes had the upper hand 7-2 in the semi-final last year. This is the third time in four years that the two teams have met in the semi-finals.

In five games, Canada has scored 35 goals and allowed just seven. 16-year-old sensation Gavin McKenna leads Gardiner MacDougall’s squad in points with six goals and nine assists. His linemate Porter Martone follows him very closely with 14 points.

For the Quebecers, Maxim Massé scored his two goals of the tournament on the power play and collected three assists. As for Caleb Desnoyers, he found the back of the net once and added three assists to his record.

Melvin Fernström and Lucas Pettersson lead the attack for the Swedes, with two goals and six points each.
