OTTAWA, ON, May 3, 2024 /CNW/ – The Committee on the Status of Endangered Species in Canada (COSEWIC) meets twice a year to examine the status of wild species designated as possibly endangered in the country. COSEWIC will determine the status of 12 Canadian wildlife species, including the narwhal, sometimes called sea unicornthe Salish sucker, a currently threatened species, and the Kirtland’s warbler, a jack pine specialist recently removed from the United States endangered species list.
The next meeting will take place from May 6 to 9, 2024, in downtown Monctonon the traditional non-CD territory of the Wolastoqiyik (Malcite) and Mi’kmaq peoples.
A press release will be issued following the meeting to summarize the results of the discussions as well as highlight ongoing conservation challenges and successful conservation measures in the world. Canada.
