CULTURE. Matthieu Pepper launched his first solo show Waiting for the village party in 2023. He took the time necessary to refine his writing, through other obligations on TV and on the web.
Matthieu Pepper notably wrote and played in the series Between 2 sheets on Noovo. At this same station, he participated in the broadcasts The Game Master And I am coming to you.
Having made his debut on stage at the legendary Bordel Comédie Club in Montreal, Matthieu Pepper won the prize Discovery of the year at the Les Olivier gala last year. His show represents an amalgam where reflection and introspection meet hilarity.
“I like to create projects, but on stage, I don’t play a character. I cover topics like masculinity, death, my dog, grocery shopping and my dreams. My goal was to tell real stories, but without it becoming heavy,” says Matthieu Pepper.
The idea of the title Waiting for the village party comes from his father. “I explain the definition in my show,” says the comedian who prefers to keep this surprise for the evening of his visit to Beauce.
This first one man show has been transformed on several levels before its official launch. “The first texts were written before the pandemic. In run-in, I have already reached two and a half hours on stage. I removed the anecdotal elements to keep what was close to my heart,” explains Matthieu Pepper.
The show Waiting for the village party will be presented on Thursday, May 30 at 8 p.m. at the Salle Alphonse-Desjardins in Saint-Georges (Cégep Beauce-Appalaches). Tickets are on sale from the organization Les Amants de la Scène.
