He says he doesn’t remember, even that “it’s a set-up.” A 57-year-old man was sentenced this Friday, May 3, by the criminal court of Périgueux (Dordogne) for three acts of violence committed against his ex-wife, between December 2020 and November 2023, at their home in Mensignac, still against a backdrop of ‘alcohol. On January 30, 2023, while she was on the phone, the defendant, suspecting her of being unfaithful, punched her in the right arm. But it was only several months later that she decided to file a complaint, after receiving a violent blow to the temple at the end of an argument about their future divorce. There, she tells the police everything, including a previous altercation dating back more than two years.

The violent husband, with a clean criminal record, receives a six-month suspended prison sentence and two years’ probation, and will be forced to seek treatment. He is prohibited from having contact with his ex-wife or from appearing at her home, and is also prohibited from possessing a weapon for three years. Finally, he will have to pay 2,500 euros in damages to the victim.
