Appointed Prime Minister by Emmanuel Macron, Michel Barnier (LR) delivered his general policy speech to the National Assembly this Tuesday 1is October 2024.
The socialist Arthur Delaporte was re-elected deputy for the second constituency of Calvados last July, after the dissolution. He reacts to Michel Barnier’s first steps in the Assembly and describes “a speech without relief, without rough edges”.
“A chain of clichés”
“We weren’t expecting anything, we weren’t disappointed, quips the member for Caen-Est. This speech was a series of clichés and ready-made sentences. We have witnessed the rehashing of Emmanuel Macron’s “At the same time”, with attacks on the right, particularly on immigration. We see a weak prime minister, with little support, and very isolated. The form was atonal, like the background. »
On pension reform, the repeal of which was one of the spearheads of the New Popular Front, the elected official is not convinced either. “We are on declarations of intent which are possibly going in the right direction, but which will not make the years stolen by this reform unfair. Even on purchasing power, an increase in the minimum wage of 2%, okay, but that remains very low. »
