Retail turnover in Switzerland increased by 1.0% in September 2024

After correcting for the effect of working days and public holidays, retail turnover in Switzerland increased by 1.0% in nominal terms in September 2024 compared to September 2023. Seasonally adjusted , nominal retail turnover decreased by 0.5% compared to the previous month. These are some provisional results from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

Adjusted for the effect of working days and public holidays, retail trade turnover increased by 2.2% in real terms in September 2024 compared to September 2023. The development in real terms takes into account the increase in price. Seasonally adjusted, retail trade turnover in real terms fell by 0.5% compared to the previous month.

Retail without gas stations

After correction for working days and public holidays, retail turnover, excluding petrol stations, increased by 1.6% in nominal terms in September 2024 compared to September 2023 (+2. 8% in real terms). At the same time, turnover in the retail trade of food, drinks and tobacco increased by 0.1% in nominal terms (but decreased by 0.4% in real terms) and those in the non-food sector increased by 3.5% in nominal terms (+6.0% in real terms).

Seasonally adjusted, retail turnover, excluding petrol stations, fell in September 2024 by 0.2% in nominal terms compared to the previous month (-0.3% in real terms ). At the same time, turnover in the retail trade of food, drinks and tobacco fell by 1.5% in nominal terms (-1.8% in real terms) and those in the non-food sector increased by 0.7% in nominal terms (+1.0% in real terms).
