Bouznika – A training session for the benefit of social workers for the elderly in social protection establishments and in family settings was launched on Tuesday in Bouznika, at the initiative of the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family, in partnership with the association managing the Hay Nahda social center for the elderly in Rabat.

This initiative is part of the implementation of the ministry’s strategy aimed at adopting a new generation of social benefits, developing family assistance professions and strengthening local social support for elderly people in situations of need. vulnerability.

The training, which targets 50 beneficiaries, men and women, from different centers and establishments for the elderly in the Kingdom, aims to strengthen the capacities of providers of personal care to the elderly, with the aim of improving the quality of care for this group and disseminate good practices in the field of healthcare service delivery.

In an opening speech, the Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family, Aawatif Hayar indicated that this training session coincides with the celebration of the International Day for Older Persons, which constitutes, in Morocco , an opportunity to highlight the efforts made at the national level to improve the living conditions of elderly people and the protection of their rights.

In this regard, Ms. Hayar underlined the important dynamic that the Kingdom is experiencing in the area of ​​improving health and social services for the benefit of vulnerable categories, led by the elderly, recalling in this sense the Royal Protection Project. which particularly concerns medical coverage and direct social assistance.

The minister also discussed the “Jisr” strategy towards inclusive, innovative and sustainable social development, in addition to the National Action Plan for the promotion of active aging.

She underlined the important role played by social service providers in the success of various projects and strategies aimed at improving the services provided within health centers, emphasizing in this context the importance of continuing training of these executives in order to provide the best possible care.

The ministry will soon launch a platform for social agents which will allow people with certificates or experience in the field of care to obtain accreditation as social agents, announced Ms. Hayar, stressing that this accreditation will allow them to work directly with associations or with families, within a regulated framework.

For her part, the president of the association managing the Hay Nahda social center for the elderly in Rabat, Mouna Maamar, indicated that this training session is part of a partnership between the ministry and the Association. which aims to train social agents within social centers for the elderly in order to improve the quality of care for these categories of society.

Ms. Maamar, moreover, a geriatrician at the Ibn Sina University Hospital in Rabat, noted that Morocco is experiencing a demographic transformation, while the proportion of elderly people is constantly increasing, emphasizing that elderly people are divided into three categories: old age in good health, frail old age and sick old age.

Each category is characterized by its own characteristics and therefore requires different services and care, highlighting the importance of training social agents in order to provide quality services that perfectly match the needs of each category.

This two-day training, led by numerous specialists in geriatrics, includes several themes including “Gerontology: definition and dimensions”, “Malnutrition in the elderly”, “The role of the social worker in the diagnosis of mental confusion”, “How to assess the urgency of an intervention in geriatric medicine”, “Cognitive stimulation in the elderly”.
