Health professionals from Poitiers University Hospital on a humanitarian mission to Togo

For two years now, a medical-care team from Poitiers University Hospital has been traveling for two weeks to Togo every year to carry out hip operations at Bethesda hospital, in collaboration with the Hands of Hope and Solidarity association represented by Mr. Komi Bansah, operating room nurse at Poitiers University Hospital.

This year, the Poitiers University Hospital is supporting this mission after signing an agreement with the Hands of Hope and Solidarity association and the Bethesda hospital, by granting leave to the professionals who participate. The new team will leave from May 5 to 19.

The Hands of Hope and Solidarity association aims to provide health education through healthcare assistance, medical-surgical care, the organization of advice and training days in health and hygiene. Its mission is also to promote the education of disadvantaged children, particularly in rural areas.

This third campaign of operations helps vulnerable low-income patients have access to orthopedic and trauma care, and follows up patients from the second mission carried out last year.

In addition, this collaboration allows local practitioners to train with health professionals from the Poitiers University Hospital in the minimally invasive method of installing hip prostheses, and to continue the training of the 2023 mission.

The CHU also supports this mission through donations of medical equipment including respirators, cardio-respiratory monitoring monitors, medical beds, mattresses, printers, hemostatic dressings, patient ventilation circuits and small operating equipment.

The objective for the Poitiers University Hospital is to perpetuate this mission by calling on external funding and to develop the training component for Togolese doctors and interns specializing in orthopedic surgery.

See you in June for the mission report.
