4 days of tasting, 192 jurors, 504 products proposed by 148 competitors (artisans, caterers, merchants, restaurateurs and farmers), and 150 medals to share, 50 in each color.

Many requests to become jurors, who must for two hours taste each dish served by the apprentices of the CFA of Alès. Bite into an apple after each dish to clean your mouth, and write it down without referring to your table companions. The products are offered according to 5 categories: Side dishes and cheeses, drinks, cold meats and ready meals, breads and specialties, desserts and sweets. The jurors are asked to taste and not eat with the first courses so as not to penalize the following courses. The notes concern sight, taste, olfactory, retro-olfactory (what remains after each bite as a sensation).

If the competition attracts many artisans, it is because the benefits are significant. A study conducted by the Chamber of Trades and Crafts shows a 26% increase in sales of awarded products.

The Gourmand competition is the flagship event of the Gard Militant du Goût brand. Companies winning a gold, silver or bronze medal are rewarded with a diploma and vintage macaroons to identify their award-winning product and to highlight their commitment to quality by entering the Gard Militant network. Taste. They also benefit from greater visibility by appearing for two years in the guide of medalists and flavors published each year by the Gard Departmental Council.
