Seven clubs for two places in the playoffs: Saint-Quentin and Strasbourg qualified on Saturday?

In three days, JDA Dijon significantly changed the final results of the Strasbourg season. On Saturday, the Burgundian club prevented the SIG from winning its first trophy since 2019, before apologizing 72 hours later by dominating Cholet, effectively placing the Alsatians in 8th place in Betclic ÉLITE, synonymous with the playoffs.

In the playoffs with a negative record?

Proof that everything is moving extremely quickly in a championship where the SIG almost seemed to have buried its last illusions by sinking the previous week on its floor against Le Mans (71-80). But Massimo Cancellieri’s team, like all its competitors, benefits from strong homogeneity in the middle of the table (and from the sanction imposed on Limoges CSP): for the second year in a row, after the miracle of the… SIG version Luca Banchi, 8th place will be decided by 17 victories. In a championship with 18 teams, we have not seen this since the 2005/06 season. Since 2012/13, otherwise, in a 16-team format (with the Nanterre title). In 2015/16, JDA Dijon even missed the playoffs with a record of 20 victories and 14 defeats, the Top 8 trading at 21 successes!

The ranking at the end of the 32nd day

Saint-Quentin and Strasbourg have their destiny in hand

For the first time since Le Mans in 2010/11, a team could even make the playoffs despite a negative record. For good reason, the SIG can qualify this Saturday, regardless of its result during the 34th day in Saint-Quentin. For this, a Strasbourg victory would be required, combined with Cholet and Nancy defeats. Far from being impossible since the SIG will receive a relegated player (Blois) while Cholet Basket and the SLUC will travel to members of the Top 4, respectively Monaco and Bourg-en-Bresse. Even if there is a very big doubt about the face that the Roca Team will display on Sunday, either 45 hours after an elimination in Istanbul, or before a decisive Match 5…

The scenario of a three-way tie between Strasbourg, Nancy and Cholet:

  1. Strasbourg, 3v-1d
  2. Nancy, 2v-2d
  3. Cholet, 1v-3d

Of course, the most enviable situation for the playoffs remains that of Saint-Quentin. Beaten at the buzzer in Villeurbanne, the SQBB missed the opportunity to score the 7th ticket for the playoffs (behind Monaco, Paris, Villeurbanne, Bourg-en-Bresse, Nanterre and Le Portel). “I would like everyone to have their feet on the ground for the next two matches”insists Julien Mahé in the columns of L’Aisne Nouvelle. “When people tell me: you are going to make the playoffs, you are going to make the playoffs… For the moment, there are no play-offs and if we play like that, there will be nothing at all. »

While a final was looming for a long time against Strasbourg on the 34th day, the Axon team is only one victory away from the playoffs. It could even qualify this weekend without needing to win in Chalon: if two of its three direct pursuers lose, the SQBB will become the first promoted since Le Portel in 2017 to reach the quarter-final.

And if Limoges had not been sanctioned…

Behind Saint-Quentin, tied with Strasbourg, Nancy and Cholet are not, at first glance, in less enviable situations. But neither has a favorable basket average against the SQBB and the SIG. Above all, they each have a real flaw: the schedule for the SLUC, with an unclear trip to Bourg-en-Bresse, and the dynamic for CB, weighed down by five defeats in a row. But if the Mauges club faces the second team of AS Monaco on Sunday, it could do its business.

Finally, Limoges, Le Mans and Dijon still theoretically remain in the race. But these three teams no longer have their destiny in their hands: they will first have to sign a 2/2 while crossing their fingers for a favorable situation. By chance of the calendar, the MSB will cross paths with the CSP and the JDA, making the 2/2 possible for a single team maximum. What, also, reinforce the regrets of the Limougeaude team which pays for the wanderings of its leaders: without the two victories withdrawn for financial reasons, Nicolas Lang’s teammates would currently be 7th in Betclic ELITE and in a good position to return to the playoffs…
