The city of Dakhla hosts the 14th edition of the Kitesurfing World Cup “Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan-Global Kitesports Associations (GKA) 2024” and the 3rd edition of the Wingfoil World Cup « Global Wingsports Association (GWA) 2024 » from September 29 to October 6.

Take part in these two global events, organized by the Dakhla Lagoon Association for the development of sport and cultural animation under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and with a prize money of 40,000 euros, some 70 elite athletes representing 17 countries.

In the Kitesurf category, Airton Cozzolino, James Carew, Matchu Lopes, Sebastian Ribeiro, Pedro Matos and Gabriel Benetton, as well as four Moroccan champions including Ali Bekkali and Maji Mounim will be in the game.

In the Wingfoil category, Malo Guenole, Cash Berzolla, Wesley Brito Hugo Marin Nia Suardiaz, Elena Moreno and Bowien Van der Linden, as well as Moroccan champion Hamouda Houine will be competing for the title.

A national championship will also be organized for around twenty Moroccan athletes, two of whom will be chosen in the Kitesurfing category and one in Wingfoil to represent Morocco in the World Cups. In this sense, the president of the Dakhla Lagoon Association for the development of sport and cultural animation, Laila Ouachi, highlighted the participation of Moroccan athletes under the aegis of the Royal Moroccan Sailing Federation, noting that they have all the potential that allows them to compete alongside world champions.

She underlined, in a statement to MAP, that a village dedicated to raising awareness and preserving the oceans will also be set up, under the slogan « Protect what you love, save the ocean »which will see the participation of young people from the region, including students and pupils from local schools.

It will house educational workshops, local initiatives and interactive and educational activities to address issues related to the protection and preservation of the marine environment, continued Ms. Ouachi.

This major sporting event is part of the events organized by the Lagon Dakhla Association, in order to highlight all the natural, sporting, tourist and human potential of Dakhla and the entire region.
