Fort Boyard is one of the attractions that most attracts tourists to Charente-Maritime. From this Thursday, May 2, they can immerse themselves in its history thanks to an educational exhibition installed within the Maison de la Charente-Maritime in La Rochelle, indicates France Blue La Rochelle.

On its website, the department council explains that this exhibition has a “double objective” : recall the history of the famous monument created in 1900 but also show the public how it has deteriorated over time due to “outrages of time” and “throes of the sea”.

A public consultation

Accessible free of charge until May 27, the exhibition presents a photograph seen from the sky of Fort Boyard as well as 18 old postcards from the Departmental Archives. “A perspective of the interior of the fort completes the scenography, and a complementary panel provides information on the work schedule and the shape that Fort Boyard will have upon completion, at the end of 2027”adds the Department on its site.

This Thursday, the Department is also launching a public consultation around the major work that will be carried out to save the emblematic monument of Charente-Maritime. The project is estimated at 44 million euros, recalls local radio. All residents of the area are invited to give their opinion on this page. A public meeting will take place next September.
