A toxic leak detected in Rennes near Vilaine: what we know

The events took place on Thursday May 2, 2024. Around 11 a.m., the Rennes firefighters intervened to a fuel leak on the former industrial site of the Triskalia factory, located rue de la Roberdièrereindeer.

Present on site, news Rennes learned from the head of fire operations that the leak represented “a significant, but unquantifiable, quantity of hydrocarbons”, with a risk of soil pollution and the river of the villainconfirming information from West France.

How to explain this leak?

According to information collected on site, it is an underground pipe which was apparently pierced by an agent on board an excavator. As a reminder, the entire industrial site is currently in the process of deconstruction.

A decontamination operation is carried out

Some of the toxic products spread through the rainwater network which joins the Vilaine river.

Very quickly, the firefighters installed a dam on the river, which should contain the polluted area and so avoid further water contamination.

After the intervention of the firefighters, specialized companies must intervene to clean up the site.
