During the last municipal council meeting, Thursday September 26, elected officials approved the renaming of Square Abbé-Pierre, on Saulcy Island, following recent revelations of sexual assault.
They preferred the name of the illustrious Marcel Rebourset. The man who had been appointed prefect for the Liberation by de Gaulle was unjustly forgotten in the Metz public space. This breach will be repaired “before the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Metz”, promises François Grosdidier.
This choice to pay tribute to the memory of this man who helped “rebuild Metz and helped erase the traces of fascism from the walls of our city”, according to Charlotte Picard (United group), was unanimously welcomed.
Soon a street, a park, a place in homage to the first female fighter pilot in France
For once, Jérémy Roques (United) and Françoise Grolet (RN) made the same proposal: for a future name, the City could pay tribute to Caroline Aigle. This soldier, from a Lorraine family, was the first female fighter pilot in France, assigned to a combat squadron of the French Air Force. She died prematurely in 2007, at the age of 32, while she was assigned to BA 128. Many streets or school groups (and even a prize to encourage students) bear the name of Caroline Aigle In France.
The town of Marly has already paid tribute to Caroline Aigle by giving her name to a street in a new housing estate, alongside other aviators Charles Lindbergh and Jean Dagneau.
A tribute will also be paid to him, in Metz, or as part of the redevelopment of the old BA 128, on the Frescaty plateau.
