The Sainte-Marie de Chaumont folk march brought together young and old for a weekend of communion and celebration. From Saturday morning, the excitement was palpable in the streets of the village.
The statue of Saint Mary was taken out to begin a procession through the Valletta area. The afternoon was devoted to a moment of contemplation at the cemetery. The marchers then walked the streets until school returned in the evening, marking the end of the first day.
A company of 300 walkers
Sunday began with solemn mass, celebrated by Dean Philippe Masson, in the Chaumont church. The afternoon was punctuated by discharges. Then the entire company, around three hundred men and women, led by a fanfare of musician friends, led by Florine Lombaerd, met for the square battalion.
We could recognize, in the order of the parade: the grenadier sappers, the dragoon sappers, the grenadiers, the battery, the fanfare, the grenadiers and, finally, the zouaves.
Torchlight procession
The start of the school year preceded the torchlight procession, illuminating the streets of Chaumont with a soft flickering light. A magical moment which ended in beauty this folkloric walk rich in emotions and sharing.
This year, the restricted corps was composed of the drum major, Geoffray Dethise, the first drummer, Michael Robert and the adjutants Simon and Olivier Ruyssen and Janik Vanhack.
The Chaumont march traditionally marks the start of the folk march season in the entity of Florennes.
