A three-way match for the Jura Government

There are therefore three of them running for a seat in the Jura Government. At the end of the deadline for submitting lists this Monday noon, Pauline Godat (Les Vert-es), Stéphane Theurillat (Le Centre) and Pascal Prince (HelvEthica) launched into the race for the complementary election to the Jura Government. All three had already announced their intention, no candidacy was registered at the last minute, said the Chancellery. The three candidates are targeting the seat of Minister Jacques Gerber (PLR), who announced his resignation at the end of the year for the post of Federal Council delegate for Ukraine.

Despite the candidacy of Pascal Prince, this complementary election takes the form of a left – right duel. The candidate of the Greens and supported by the left-wing parties, Pauline Godat, will try to impose a left-wing – and female – majority on the cantonal executive by adding a green seat to the two socialist seats, held by Nathalie Barthoulot and Rosalie Beuret Siess.

Candidate from the Center, Stéphane Theurillat will seek to win back a second seat in the Government alongside that of Martial Courtet. A seat lost during the election of Rosalie Beuret Siess during the March 2020 partial election.

Third candidate in this election, Pascal Prince wishes to offer more choice to Jura residents. Representative of the HelvEthica movement, a movement founded during the Covid-19 pandemic, the resident of Courrendlin received less than 2% of the vote in the last federal elections.

First round in November

As a reminder, the CS-POP, the PS, the PLR and the UDC have decided to stay put for this partial, preferring to concentrate on the general elections of 2025. The PCSI and The Vert’liberaux have chosen the same option. The first round of this complementary election will take place on November 24. A possible second round is scheduled for December 15. /gtr-rch
