New month, new changes. Health costs, energy renovation, administrative procedures… Overview of what changes from May 1, 2024.

From May 1, several new measures and price changes will apply.

After several months of decline, the benchmark gas price established by the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) rose by 1.4%. “This increase is explained by a slight increase in wholesale market prices of natural gas, which had been falling since the end of 2023“, explains the organization. Many suppliers, particularly those who index their prices to this benchmark price, should pass this increase on to consumers’ bills. Prices will increase from €109.71/MWh to €111.19/MWh. This concerns typical cooking/hot water and heating consumers. On the other hand, subscription prices remain stable.

The terms of access to MaPrimeRénov’ are changing as from May 15, 2024 and until January 1, 2025, details the site MoneyVox. Thus, owners of housing classified F and G can now benefit from aid for their renovation. Furthermore, the energy performance diagnosis (DPE) for insulation work or boiler replacement is no longer mandatory.

Another notable point: households applying for purchase wishing to anticipate the request for assistance will be able to provide a sales compromise when submitting their MaPrimeRénov’ file. On the other hand, they will have to provide proof of property title is mandatory to obtain aid.

From May 15, the amount of the flat-rate contribution of social insurance to health costs, set at 2 euros, will apply, confirms The Official Journal. This sum, automatically deducted from reimbursements, cannot, however, exceed 50 euros per insured person per year. It concerns each medical consultation, biological analysis, or radiology examination. However, beneficiaries of maternity insurance, complementary solidarity health insurance and minors will be exempt.

From now on, employees who wish to finance training themselves via their CPF account will have to pay a contribution of 100 euros. This participation – the amount of which may be reassessed each year following inflation – aims to replenish the coffers of the State, which thus wishes to “generate 200 million euros in savings out of a total of 2 billion”. This measure does not apply to job seekers and employees for whom the employer contributes to the payment of training.

Home straight ahead of the European elections on June 9. Those who have not yet done so have until May 1 to register on the online electoral lists, and until May 3 to complete the process at the town hall. To do this, you must be of legal age and provide proof of identity and proof of address dated less than three months ago. New voters aged 18 who have completed their citizen census are automatically registered.

The deadline for declaring your income online is May 23 for departments numbered 1 to 19, May 30 for departments 20 to 54 and June 6 for the others. For paper declarations, this date is set for May 21.

This is another important administrative step, to be done before May 31, 2024: the application for a student grant, awarded based on resources to young people pursuing higher education in France or in certain countries of the European Union. This process is done onlinewithout having to register if the applicant has a Parcoursup account.
