A prolific director who refuses to promote his new film

Quentin Dupieux’s thirteenth film will be released in theaters simultaneously with its programming (out of competition) at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Like most of his previous feature films, it has a relatively short duration – 1h16 – and rekindles discussions about the filmmaker’s work. For some people, Quentin Dupieux has become a sort of factory where quantity takes precedence over quality. For others, on the contrary, Yannick (2023) remains one of his best films, proof that, despite its frantic pace, the director has lost none of his splendor.

It is clear that Quentin Dupieux has not spoken widely in the press regarding the Second act which was initially to be titled: To our beautiful profession. According to him, it is time to “shut up” by avoiding any unnecessary promotion: “Today, (…) I want to be silent, he indicates. Not out of weariness or pretension but simply because The Second Actvery talkative, says in well-chosen words everything I want to say and already contains his own analysis extremely clearly.”

The Second Act (2024), with Léa Seydoux and Raphaël Quenard, in theaters on May 14.
