Switzerland beat Finland 3-1 at the World Championship in Prague in the final match of the preliminary round. Patrick Fischer’s men will be entitled to a revenge against Germany in the quarterfinals in Ostrava on Thursday.

Thanks to a great Kevin Fiala, author of 2 goals, the national team finished the 1st phase of the tournament in 2nd place in its group. Six victories in 7 games, the record is good. But we had to wait until the middle third to see goals. The opening score fell in the 26th.

On a long shot from Romain Loeffel returned by Harri Säteri, Kevin Fiala was responsible for scoring his 5th goal in 5 matches. The Saint-Gallois scored against the 3 big nations in this preliminary round. This bodes well for the future, especially since he added a 6th success in the 57th to validate this nice success.

The Los Angeles Kings striker also turned into a passer in the 28th for Andrea Glauser who deceived the Biel goalkeeper from afar. The Nordiques, however, managed to come back into this match just before the break with their first power-play. It was Jere Innala who beat Akira Schmid in the 38th. A goal from 4 shots on target during the middle period, which means that the Finns enjoyed maximum success.

In Ostrava from Wednesday

Switzerland will therefore travel to Ostrava on Wednesday to play the quarter-final on Thursday against Germany. This trip to the far east of the country immediately brings to mind the 2015 edition. Then, having painfully emerged from its group stage with an unfortunate 10 points, Glen Hanlon’s Switzerland lost 3-1 to the United States. She is hoping for another outcome this time in order to erase the heartbreaks in the quarterfinals against Germany in 2010, 2018 at the Olympics (round of 16), 2021 and last year.
