“everything can be explained by the rainy month of September…” (Agent Anacim)

While the flooding of the Senegal River continues to disadvantage the social functioning of Senegalese people located in the north of the country and in the Kédougou region, Anacim reveals the exact source of this meteorological tragedy.
The flooding of the Senegal River has a completely normal origin. According to the head of the forecasting and risk reduction department at ANACIM, Pape Ngor Ndiaye, “this rise in water levels can be explained by this rainy month of September.” He quotes: “Mainly, these floods are due to the heavy rainfall in September. In August, it did not rain much, particularly in the Senegal River area.” Indeed, it was towards the second half of August that the rain began to flow more regularly with significant quantities sometimes exceeding 100 mm, thus filling the river bed.

Mr. Ndiaye also adds that the alert levels have been reached since the beginning of September. The rise in the level of the Senegal River is the result of heavy rainfall recorded in Guinea Conakry. “The Senegal River has its source at Fouta-Djallon, in Guinea. The precipitation noted in this country had an impact on these floods,” he analyzes.

In short, it is the combination of precipitation recorded along the Senegal River and in Guinea which caused these floods.
