Liberals promise to improve working conditions in education | New Brunswick Elections 2024

Susan Holt’s Liberal Party promises to increase stability in New Brunswick’s education sector if it forms the next government.

The Liberals’ commitments to education were presented Saturday morning at a press conference in Moncton.

The Liberal Party says it will offer more stability in education by notably improving working conditions in schools and maintaining entry into French immersion from the first year.

The Liberal Party says it wants to increase the retention and recruitment of teachers, support staff, educational assistants and bus drivers, while improving their working conditions.

We aim to fill as soon as possible the 170 positions that are vacant today for the next school year 2025said Ms. Holt during a press conference.

The Liberals plan to allocate $500,000 for this purpose.

The Reds also want to encourage more students to work in teaching.

We want to encourage people to take classes and become teachers in New Brunswick. We must also have better working conditions.

The leader of the liberal party also promises the construction of new schools or the rehabilitation of those that need it.

A Holt government also commits to develop a new 10-year plan with teachers, other education professionals, experts and parents to define a common vision of educationwe can read in a press release issued Saturday morning.

The Liberal Party also promises to maintain immersion entry from the first year and to expand access points to the sixth year.

No announcement from the Progressive Conservatives, the Greens once again promise a bridge

In an emailed statement, outgoing Education Minister Bill Hogan used the Liberals’ announcement to ask whether Susan Holt would rescind Policy 713 and claim that their opponents’ education promises demonstrated the ways the Liberals will spend taxpayers’ money.

According to documents filed by the parties with Elections NB, as of September 27, the bill for electoral commitments made by the Progressive Conservative Party amounts to nearly $1.7 billion. So far, the Liberal Party has promised to spend almost $720 million.

For their part, the Greens went to the Acadian Peninsula to repeat their commitment to build a new Shippagan-Lamèque bridge if they are brought to power.

M. Coon was accompanied by Wilfred Roussel, Green candidate in the riding of Shippagan-Les-Îles, and Serge Brideau, Green candidate for Tracadie.

Asked to specify how much this promise could cost, a spokesperson for the Green Party indicated in a press release that the estimated cost of the project was $80 million in 2022.

We want to share the costs with the federal government, as was done for the Anderson Bridge in Miramichi. This estimate dates back two years, the exact sharing of costs with the federal government will have to be negotiatedcan we read in an email sent by the party.

According to Elections NB, the cost of the Greens’ electoral commitments currently stands at $2.4 billion. This amount does not include the costs of replacing the Shippagan bridge.
