After Mauritania and the Gambia, the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye will be in Guinea Bissau on April 30, 2024. The Government Information Office (Big) which provides the information maintains that it will be a working and friendship.

“This trip, which follows the first trips of the Head of State to Mauritania and the Gambia, is part of the strengthening of historical links of good neighborliness and socio-cultural mixing between Senegal and its neighbors. It also reflects the prominent place occupied by the Dakar-Bissau axis in the diplomatic priorities of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

Senegal and Guinea Bissau maintain deep cooperative relations. Exchanges between the two brotherly countries affect practically all areas.

From security, to culture, including the very strategic fishing sector, Dakar and Bissau continue to consolidate their very strong historical links, framed by multiple agreements,” informs the Big in a bulletin dedicated to this visit.

On the commercial front, adds the same Source, Guinea Bissau is among Senegal’s client countries in Africa, with exports estimated, in net weight, at 108,257 tonnes in 2022, or 55.201 billion FCFA (Nace 2022). Which represents an improvement of +33.5%, compared to the year 2021.

Among the products exported to Bissau, we note the very marked presence of unroasted peanuts which represent more than 61.2% of sales in 2022. Thus, with Morocco (+62.8%), Guinea Bissau had contributed to limiting the fall in shipments of this product in 2022.

According to Big, fishing remains one of the major axes of cooperation between Senegal and Guinea Bissau. Indeed, since December 1978, the two sister countries have been linked by an agreement in the field of maritime fisheries. “Thanks to the effectiveness of the various mechanisms put in place, significant results have been recorded. For example, industrial fishing catches made by Senegalese vessels under the current protocol were of the order of 1,417 tonnes in 2022. The bycatch planned by the different fishing segments (crustaceans, cephalopods and fish demersals) are also regulated according to its provisions. In 2024, 144 vessels are planned, excluding tuna boats,” informs Le Big.
