Situation of municipal workers: the Union tackles Ousmane Sonko and supervision

The Unique and Democratic Union of Municipal Workers (SUDTM) is not losing its temper. Responding to Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and their supervisory minister, Moussa Balla Fofana, they believe that calling for the destructuring of the remuneration system is unwelcome for those who continue to benefit from it and even more so for others who are not victims of whom the only wrong is to be civil servants for the development of local authorities. Thus he deplores a discrepancy between Ousmane Sonko’s words of yesterday and today. “We are surprised to hear the Prime Minister, former mayor and former parliamentarian, declare that it was absurd to put in a law that any advantage granted to state civil servants should be granted to those of local authorities,” regrets the union organization.

According to him, the workers were waiting for him to be a messiah, for a happy exit from the crisis by making concrete proposals because the State is not only required to respect its commitments but also to make up for the shortcomings of the local authorities which are its dismemberments by releasing the endowment funds. Addressing the Minister of Town Planning, Local Authorities and Regional Planning, the union deplores the fact that it is calling into question the number of rights holders. Thus the trade union organization believes that it seems to forget that as in the national civil service, the local civil service has civil servants and non-civil servants.

“As for the strike which lasted too long, it is up to him to put an end to it. All he needs to do is meet and listen to the And Gueusseum coalition which will make concrete proposals for ending the crisis,” the press release indicates. As a reminder, local authority workers are on strike for several months, demanding better working conditions.
