Dominic Forget is something of a legend in the town of Shawinigan, Quebec, where the Cataractes of the QMJHL play. In three seasons, from 1998 to 2001, Dominic accumulated 81, 116 and 141 points. During the last QMJHL season, Shawinigan hockey fans got a glimpse of the next Forget who hopes to make his mark. JordanDominic’s eldest son, played 61 games for the Cataractes and, while he has yet to post numbers similar to his father’s, you can bet that Jordan’s tough-guy, hard-working style will. love Cataractes fans.

“I was drafted by Victoriaville, it wasn’t supposed to happen like that. I was traded to Shawinigan a year later and I didn’t realize at first how special it would be. declared Jordan Forget, who was chosen 38th overall by Victoriaville during the 2022 QMJHL selection session and who is participating this week in the U18 World Cup under the Swiss colors. “It’s very special, especially for (my father) because he came to watch my matches and it brought back good memories. He told me to enjoy every moment, because the junior career goes by very quickly. That’s what I do.”

And the father added: “I strongly believe that success has to come from within, so I try to let Jordan write his own story and have his own identity”says Dominic. “I see Jordan with multiple hats that he can wear: a strong technical player, an offensive player, fast, energetic and, above all, a very good teammate.”

Dominic, who recently turned 43, played last season with EHC Winterthur in the Swiss League. He played for several Swiss league teams, including eight seasons with Hockey Club La Chaux-de-Fonds. But the land of origin has always remained relevant: “When the season was over, we would go back to Canada,” says Jordan. “He had a house there and had to get it ready for the summer. Until the age of 10 or 11, I did half my studies in Switzerland and half the school year in Canada. Then we bought a house in Switzerland. It was a really nice experience living in both countries.”

Jordan holds dual Canadian and Swiss citizenship and could have continued to play internationally for Canada. But they say that where your heart is is home, and for Jordan, that place is Switzerland. “To be honest, I thought about it (playing for Canada)”he said. “But I think I have lived more in Switzerland and so I chose to play with the Swiss. Even though I was born in Canada, I grew up in Switzerland.”

But he will always have an attentive ear with Dominic: “He is like all fathers. When bad times come, he’s there to get you back on the right path.”explains Jordan. “He just wants me to have my own experience and have my own story. That’s what my father does.”
