A 31-year-old man was sentenced this Monday, April 29, to two years in prison, including eight months suspended for two years, by the Bergerac court (Dordogne). He was appearing for contempt, rebellion and death threats against police officers. The events took place on Saturday April 27, rue des Fontaines in Bergerac.

Around 1:30 p.m. that day, the police, alerted by passers-by, intervened for an intoxicated man walking with his 2-year-old daughter in his arms. While the agents handed the little girl over to a family member, the thirty-year-old man began to insult them before fleeing and falling heavily a little further away. Kicking, spitting and death threats followed, police said. The thirty-year-old refused to be heard until Sunday evening.

“Abhorrent behavior”

At the hearing, the defendant continued to contest the acts of rebellion and the death threats while acknowledging the insults. “Obvious behavior”, as the prosecutor described it, who clarified that this had earned him this immediate appearance. “I wasn’t drunk, I drank a glass of whiskey,” he also said.

Convicted three times since 2021, in an irregular situation since 2009 in France, the father will have to pay his four victims 2,900 euros in damages and will have to seek treatment.
