Two years after the departmental domain of Hostens was ravaged by flames, in Gironde, access to its leisure center is finally widened.

Particularly around Lamothe and Bourg lakes.

Good news as the sunny days approach while the basement continued to burn, in places on the site, a few months ago.

Free activities to celebrate

Thanks to the work of the ONF (national forestry office), the Department’s fire and rescue services, as well as local elected officials, the official opening of the season will take place on Saturday, May 4 from 9:30 a.m., with a special day, garnished animations.

Nature walks, mountain biking, forest bathing, canoeing, archery: to celebrate, sports activities will be free. A photography exhibition will also be visible on the site. She will return to the fires that marked the minds of the Girondins, and more, during the summer of 2022.

After the fires, accessible places

“The public will be able to benefit from the opening of certain spaces, post-fire dangers being monitored, even if certain spaces remain closed,” explains the Department in a press release. All necessary means have been deployed to ensure the safety of people, including departmental agents involved on a daily basis in the management and protection of this sensitive natural area.”

THE places classified as “at risk” have been cleaned. The ONF carried out the clearing. Appropriate signage and barriers to dangerous areas have been deployed. Here is the list of authorized accesses.

  • Lake Lamothe
  • Access to Hiot and Chalet accommodation
  • Access to the accommodation site only in its fenced part.

“Apart from these, the entire departmental area of ​​Hostens and the Lagunes du Gât-Mort remains prohibited from access until further notice. Safety work is underway and the risks, in particular of burns, falling trees and collapses, are significant,” recalls the Department. Night carp fishing remains prohibited on the entire site.
