Saint-Louis, April 26 (APS) – The regional health director (DRS) of Saint-Louis, Doctor Seynabou Ndiaye, affirmed Friday that the objective of a prevalence rate of 46 percent for family planning is within reach of this region, which is currently at 32 percent.

“For the region, we have a prevalence rate of 32 percent for family planning and we are on the right track, because at the national level the target is 42 percent in 2027,” she said to journalists.

She was speaking on the sidelines of a discussion forum on the barriers linked to the use of family planning products.

Seynabou Ndiaye explains that “this meeting was initiated to advocate which must take into account the private sector which plays a vital role in this area”.

“Many women turn to private clinics and other pharmacies to benefit from their family planning services, and this must be taken into account,” she said.

According to Ms. Ndiaye, the side effects which also constitute a barrier to achieving these objectives should be the subject of awareness raising among users of this strategy.

Imam Mamadou Sakho explained to the panelists the vision of Islam in relation to family planning or “family organization”.

He recalled that Islam is especially interested in the health of the mother and child.

For him, saying that a woman must breastfeed her child for two years is a way of inviting the faithful to space out births.

The Directorate of Mother and Child Health (DSME) and the Social Marketing Development Agency in Senegal (ADEMAS) are the partners of the DRS in this forum.
