This is the twentieth homicide in Guyana since January 1. The events took place in the territory of Papaïchton. The alleged victim is a Brazilian national. The deceased’s wife appealed for solidarity to repatriate the body to Brazil.

It was the Brazilian site https://lpmnews.com which revealed it on Thursday: a 51-year-old Brazilian illegal gold miner lost his life in Guyana, in the vicinity of the “Papa Xitom” site, “hit by a gunshot in the coasts,” specifies the site, which displays a blurred photo of the alleged victim, without giving further details on the circumstances of the death.

We were able to confirm this death. According to our information, the alleged murder took place on Tuesday April 23, in an illegal gold panning area in the town of Papaïchton. Contacted at the beginning of the afternoon, the public prosecutor, Yves Le Clair, has not yet responded to us. We already know that it is the Research Section of the gendarmerie which is involved in this type of case.

According to the Brazilian site, the deceased’s wife is “desperately seeking financial means to repatriate the body to Brazil, where the victim’s family lives.” The deceased’s wife clarified that the estimated cost for the transport of the corpse to Brazil via Paramaribo exceeded twelve thousand euros. The family and friends of this gold miner are mobilizing.

The repatriation of the body should be delayed by the needs of the investigation: in fact, during murders in the forest in the world of clandestine gold panning, when a corpse is found, it is either transported to for the purpose of autopsy, or the forensic doctor goes to the site to carry out these readings, in a more summary manner in the latter case.
