While fears of a terrorist attack continue to weigh on the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the work of the anti-terrorist services continues in the shadows. Latest example, the arrest of a 17-year-old young man in Marignier (Haute-Savoie). He wanted to carry out an attack in the La Défense district (Hauts-de-Seine). The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat) of the Paris court has opened a judicial investigation this Friday April 26. The teenager was indicted for “terrorist criminal association with a view to preparing attacks against people” and placed under judicial supervision.
Regular consultation of jihadist propaganda
In detail, the suspect was arrested at his home April 24, 2024. He had been spotted by the anti-terrorist services “following his statements on social networks announcing his desire to manufacture an explosive belt with a view to dying as a martyr”, explains the Pnat to Paris news.
The investigation carried out by the General Directorate of Internal Security showed that the teenager regularly consulted jihadist propaganda, especially on Telegram. It was on this social network that he announced his desire to carry out an attack in the La Défense district. Investigations are continuing to determine to what extent the suspect carried out his macabre plan.
