The Azeville battery, on the east coast of Cotentin, is a German fortification of the Atlantic Wall built between 1942 and 1944, composed of four casemates and 800 meters of underground passages. The position fell on June 9, 1944, after more than three days of fighting. An exceptionally preserved site, it was bought by the Department of Manche in 1994, and opened to the public the same year.
