Arrested for driving under drugs in Eure, repeat offender sentenced to suspended prison sentence

“Even the prison sentences did not work,” remarks the prosecutor during the indictment.

” THE narcotics, it’s my problem, my whole life…” notes the motorist from Oise who appears in Évreux, in correctional court.

It was May 4, 2023, in the morning, and on the A13 motorway, in Douains, in Eure. Driving a borrowed vehicle and speeding (158 km/h), Bilel Y. (36 years old) had smoked cannabis.

Dangerous behavior

“For two years, I haven’t touched it,” claims the driver who, because of license suspensions, works via the Internet. Because since 2011 and until 2021, he has received six convictions, all related to drugs and prohibited conduct, repeat offenses and sometimes, violence, in addition.

Precisely, this father of three children is the subject of a suspension of permit for six months, checked every three months and “perfectly inserted”, according to his lawyer. His client admits to “smoking” since the age of 16, or twenty years.

“Four to five joints a day is huge! »

The indictment notes that there is no certainty that the defendant is ready to make a good decision against his dangerous behavior. He asks for a mixed prison sentence of ten months, four of which with the electronic braceletcancellation of the license, one year before applying for another, various fines.

The defender of the driver, “perfectly integrated and boss of two companies which require him to drive”, finds that probation should be enough and only for six months. The defendant recalls “his good faith” vehemently.

The probationary suspension will be granted to him (for two years) on a sentence of six months in prison.

The convicted person will have to pay 135 euros fines and forcing oneself to work, take care of oneself, pay, etc. There is no extension to the suspension of a driving license already under supervision.
