The town center of the commune of Aiffres, near Niort, was the scene of an impressive and incredible heist, on the night of Thursday April 25 to Friday April 26. Between 2 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., individuals robbed a tobacco bar, the Café du center, located on rue du bourg. To carry out their heist, the latter used a Dumper type construction machine, stolen a few minutes earlier from a construction site in Niort, in the Goise district.

The machine, used as a ram car, literally collapsed the shop window, giving free access to thieves. Except that the latter, whose number is unknown, left with… lighters, electronic cigarettes and a few packs of cigarettes. “The damage from the theft is minimal compared to that of the damage, they did not even touch the cash register,” indicate the Niort company gendarmes, who specify that they were alerted at 4:30 a.m. “The Frontenay-Rohan-Rohan gendarmes, the Niort search brigade, a Psig team and criminal identification technicians intervened. »
Contacted, the manager of the tobacco bar said he was shocked to have discovered the machine in his business during the night. “ It’s very violent to see that. I have been running this business for a year and a half and I have never been the victim of theft. » The latter, however, insisted on reopening the tobacco bar on Friday early afternoon, once the machine was removed and protective panels installed in place of the window. “Everyone has been talking about that since this morning in town.”
