HASWhile a new round of negotiations under the aegis of the United Nations is currently being held in Ottawa (Canada) aimed at reaching an agreement on a global treaty to combat plastic pollution, the European association of plastic producers, Plastics Europe , published figures indicating notable progress towards a more circular plastic economy on the Old Continent.

In 2022, the production of “circular” plastic reached 11.7 million tonnes, or 19.7% of total plastic production in Europe. Under this name, we mainly find plastic from recycling but also a little bioplastic produced from biomass (1%). Between 2018 and 2022, the production of this circular plastic increased by 30.3% when the overall production of plastic in Europe decreased by 5.6%.
