The Green deputy to the Geneva Grand Council, Marjorie de Chastonay, is targeting Frédérique Perler’s seat on the Administrative Council of the City of Geneva. She will face the former president of the Municipal Council of the City of Geneva, Uzma Khamis Vannini, and the current administrative councilor Alfonso Gomez, during the nomination of the Green candidates on June 18.

“I want to improve the quality of life and make people understand the link between climate emergency and social emergency,” declared Marjorie de Chastonay on Tuesday in the Tribune de Genève. A primary school teacher, she served for a year on the Municipal Council before joining the Grand Council in 2018.

As for the choice of department, the MP says she is ready for any of them. “Alfonso Gomez does an excellent job in Finance, as for Culture, I would highlight alternative cultures and make culture more accessible in the neighborhoods,” she says.

The administrative councilor of the City of Geneva, Frédérique Perler, announced last Friday that she will not seek a second term during the municipal elections in spring 2025. Her decision came following a controversial hiring case within her department. .

Measures

This affair, which went through several episodes, was revealed in March by the Tribune de Genève and Léman Bleu television. It appeared that the co-director of DACM had hired her half-sister for a communications manager position, without announcing the relationship. This framework also allowed the hiring of a couple from the Paris region who lied about their home to circumvent the regulations.

The Administrative Council took action by terminating the contracts of the three individuals and suspending the co-director of DACM. The executive also committed to shedding light on the recruitment procedures which could be marred by irregularities. The financial control department must also examine recent and ongoing recruitment processes at the head of DACM services.

The Greens of the City of Geneva will nominate their candidates on June 18 for the election to the Administrative Council, where two of their number currently sit: Frédérique Perler and Alfonso Gomez. The latter announced last week that he wanted to run for a second term. The former president of the Municipal Council of the City of Geneva, Uzma Khamis Vannini, had already announced her desire to run for office.
