SHENZHENChina, May 6, 2024 /CNW/ – ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a leading global information and communications technology solutions provider, recently announced that its science-based goals, which aim to reduce carbon emissions greenhouse gases in accordance with the objective of limiting the increase in temperature to 1.5C and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 at the latest, have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and appear on the dashboard of objectives of the SBTi initiative. ZTE became the first major information and communications technology company in China to receive official approval of short- and long-term GHG emission reduction targets and be listed on the CDP A-list, highlighting a crucial achievement in its active response to global climate challenges.

ZTE is actively responding to international trends in decarbonization. Since 2021, the company has formulated a green and low carbon strategy based on digital intelligence innovation, focusing on four key dimensions: Green Operations, Green Supply Chain, Green Digital Infrastructure and green empowerment. This strategy aims to create a green path for the digital economy, promote its own ecological initiatives internally and promote energy conservation and the reduction of carbon emissions externally.

First, ZTE has established ambitious, high-level systematic goals. ZTE commits to reducing absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 52% by 2030, by 90% by 2040 and to achieve carbon neutrality across the entire value chain by 2050.

Second, ZTE deeply integrates green and low carbon concepts into its end-to-end operations. ZTE not only focuses on research and development, production and high-consumption facilities to reduce resource usage and environmental impact, but also integrates ecological measures into its supply chain, develops business models emissions and promotes collaboration with its partners to reduce overall emissions.

Regarding green digital infrastructure, ZTE targets clean energy, highly efficient ICT and intelligence networks, with a focus on improving product efficiency and creating a network carbon neutral. ZTE helps global operators save 10 billion kWh of electricity per year through intelligent photovoltaic power generation, hydrogen fuel cells, liquid cooling, AI energy conservation and other cutting-edge technologies.

In the field of green empowerment, ZTE launched a green precision cloud network solution based on digital nebula architecture, aiming to enable various industries to achieve energy saving, reduce emissions and improve efficiency.

ZTE has achieved remarkable results in sustainable development. In 2023, the company’s overall carbon emissions decreased by 9.7% compared to the previous year, with operating carbon emissions (gates 1 and 2) decreasing by 3.0% compared to the previous year. previous year, and all indirect carbon emissions (scope3) upstream and downstream having decreased by 9.8% compared to the previous year. Over the past two years, operating carbon emissions (scopes 1 and 2) decreased by 15.6% compared to the previous year, the unit energy consumption intensity of the total energy consumption of the company grew by 18.1%, and the installed self-built and self-used photovoltaic power generation capacity increased by 700%.

As a driver of the digital economy, ZTE will continue to promote green and sustainable global economic development, contributing to climate change mitigation and shaping a common future for the world.

The Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) is a global initiative jointly launched by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the United Nations Global Compact ( UNGC). This initiative aims to establish emissions reduction targets based on climate science to encourage businesses around the world to reduce their carbon emissions in accordance with the requirements of the Climate Accord. Parisby collectively tackling the challenges posed by climate change.
