The cold at the start of the week will not have spared the winegrowers mosellens. With temperatures close to 0 degrees or even negative like this Monday when it was -1 degree, the vines did not resist this cold and spring frost. “The conditions meant that we had very significant damage“, explains Norbert Molozay, president of the AOC .

Up to 80% losses

The vine is very well made, there is always a counter bud, the bud will fall and another will take its place but it will not be fruitful so there will be no harvest“, adds Norbert Molozay. “The vines are 100% burned when they are touched“, he continues.

Some sectors are very affected like that of Vic-sur-Seille.which is a very frost-prone sector but there the losses are of the order of 80%. Sectors like Novéant-sur-Moselle and Arnaville are 80.90% affected“, explains the president of the AOC Moselle. “A sector that was often little affected is that ofe Contz-les-Bains and Sierck-les-Bains, there too the losses are 80%“, concludes Norbert Molozay.

Only Val de was spared with losses of 10 to 20%.
