The 76e edition of the Cannes Film Festival begins this Tuesday, May 16, 2023. On the menu this evening for the event, whose mistress of ceremonies is Chiara Mastroianni and which brings together a plethora of stars – actors, directors and film producers – the presentation of the Palme d gold of honor to American actor Michael Douglas from the hands of actress Uma Thurman Will then follow the screening – out of competition – at the opening of the film festival Jeanne du Barry. The latter, directed by Maïwenn and in which she plays the eponymous role of the film, the Countess of Barry, sees Johnny Depp embody Louis XV.

Mads Mikkelsen also showed up on the steps. The Danish actor will notably star in IIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destinyalongside Harrison Ford, 5e part of the saga which will be presented in preview on Thursday May 18 at the festival and will be released in theaters on June 28 in France.
The nine members of the Cannes Film Festival jury, chaired by Ruben Östlund, double winner of the Palme d’Or, have arrived. Among these jurors, Brie Larson, the Hollywood star known for her role in Captain MarvelFrench actor Denis Ménochet and French director Julia Ducournau.

Johnny Depp, who plays Louis XV in Jeanne du Barry (which will be released tomorrow in cinemas in France) arrived under the cries of the crowd and began by signing autographs. Maïwenn, her on-screen partner, has also arrived. Their presence at the Cannes Film Festival and the choice of the film for the opening screening created a stir, with the signature of a platform in Release by 123 actors and actresses, who denounces the fact that the Cannes Film Festival takes place “the red carpet for men and women who attack”.
Asked at the microphone of Franceinfo, Johnny Depp confided that Maïwenn was a “great director ” with a “strong vision”.

Michael Douglas, who receives the honorary Palme d’or tonight, also posed on the red carpet with his wife Catherine Zeta Jones and their daughter. “It touches me a lot.
