A Moroccan citizen wanted for online fraud has been arrested in Segovia, Spain, as part of international cooperation with Morocco. The arrest illustrates the joint efforts of both countries to combat cross-border crime.

Spanish police recently arrested a Moroccan citizen in Segovia, wanted on an international arrest warrant issued by Morocco. The man is accused of participating in a series of fraudulent online purchases in shopping malls in Morocco, using stolen credit card information.

The investigation, which is part of Operation TAZA, began on 20 August after Spanish authorities examined documents submitted by a residence applicant to the Foreigners’ Office in Segovia. These documents aroused the suspicions of local authorities, who immediately forwarded the information to the Provincial Extradition and Borders Brigade. The latter, in collaboration with the provincial scientific police, launched an in-depth investigation.
Analysis of the data collected quickly confirmed that the residence applicant was indeed the person sought by the Moroccan authorities.

The suspect is involved in several crimes, including document forgery, information technology crimes, and wire fraud. By tracing IP addresses and phone numbers associated with the fraudulent activities, investigators uncovered a well-organized criminal network, with each member playing a specific role.

The investigation also revealed that at least one of the suspects involved in the case no longer resides in Morocco, adding an international dimension to the case. Following his arrest, the suspect was handed over to the National Court of Madrid, along with a detailed police report, for further legal proceedings to be undertaken.

This arrest highlights the close and ongoing cooperation between Spain and Morocco in the field of international law enforcement. The two countries regularly work together to identify and apprehend individuals wanted for a variety of crimes, ranging from fraud to theft. This effective collaboration facilitates the issuance of international arrest warrants, allowing authorities in both countries to act quickly to intercept suspects, even when they are abroad, thus strengthening the security of both nations.
