Around 2:35 p.m., patients, visitors and staff were confined to the Jacques-Monod hospital in Montivilliers near the Havre (Seine-Maritime). The hospital initially alerted via Facebook of this confinement.

Asked by 76actu, at that time, management did not wish to tell us more about the reasons for this confinement. For their part, the police present in large numbers on the site have not yet answered our questions.

However, several employees contacted on site mentioned: “An armed individual wanted in the establishment. »

Around 4:05 p.m. two of our union sources present on site indicated that management had explained: “The police were looking for an individual of approximately 1.70 m, threatening and of heavy build. As a precaution, the police asked for confinement, but the doubt was resolved at 4:00 p.m. because the individual is no longer in the establishment.

And at 4:15 p.m., management confirmed this information by telephone to 76actu and also informed users and patients’ relatives on its Facebook page.

The deputy director speaks of an armed individual in the middle of a meeting

According to our information, it was in the middle of a Specialized Training meeting in health, safety and working conditions (F3SCT), the deputy director of the Jacques-Monod hospital Pauline Richoux left the room around 2:35 p.m., Thursday April 18 2024 indicating to those present that an armed individual would be in the establishment.

At the same time, a message was sent to staff informing of the immediate confinement of the establishment.

Quite frankly, we believed it was an exercise, it was presented like that in the first communication we received. But we quickly realized that something else was happening. The paramedics who have to drop off patients turn around, all the people who were still present on the square are asked to evacuate,

An activated crisis unit

Another trade unionist further indicates, “a crisis unit has been set up, we were just told that there was a suspicion of an armed man and that he was wanted mainly in 3ᵉ, but that’s all. »

In a second message, on Facebook, at 3:45 p.m., the hospital indicated that it was not a question of a hostage taking without going beyond this information and that the hospital was “locked” at this time. time, the police services contacted did not respond to our requests.
