With 4.8% according to INSEE data for the last quarter of 2023, released recently, the Mayenne is on the third step of the podium of the departments having the lower unemployment rate behind Lozère (4.7%) and Cantal (4.3%).
This level has been maintained since the last quarter of 2022, with some changes depending on the sector of activity.
Evron: growing companies
Evron and the Coëvrons territory are no exception. If the domain ofagri-food is very present there, other branches are growing and have labor needs.
This is the case of the metallurgy and theelectronic notably.
Agri-food and technology
“Here in Evron, the first employer is Socopa which has 1,100 employees and has development projects.
Arrives just behind the Bel group with 800 people, then come Howmet Ciral (aeronautics) which employs around 350 employees and the electronics engineer Cimel based in Voutré which has around 250 employees between permanent contracts and temporary workers,” explains Loïc Richer, the director of economic development for the Coëvrons community of communes.
It also highlights sustained activity in the careerswith two major sites in Voutré employing more than 100 people.
The interim barometer
Despite a slight decline in hiring in certain areas, industry and the agri-food sector continue their growth in the departement.
A significant indicator is that of request for temporary workers in industry which appreciated by 0.6% during the last quarter when that of the Pays de la Loire region recorded a drop of 3.7%.
The agri-food industry accounts for 21% of temporary employment and is in 9% increase compared to the previous quarter (data from the employment observatory) when the construction and metallurgy sectors, which each represent 10% of the department’s temporary workers, contracted by 4.7% and 4.3% respectively.
Administrative and support services activities as well as the manufacturing of transport equipment also maintain high levels of activity with recruitments which increased by 4.3% and 4.5%.
A historically high activity rate
The unemployment rate in Mayenne is historically lowest since 1982 when that of the activity of 15-64 year olds is at its highest since INSEE existed (1975) with more than 74%.
If the decline in the French economy is accompanied by a certain caution in terms of hiring, we see that employers in Mayenne still have many positions to provide.
Attract assets
A situation which can be explained by demographics. It’s a sparsely populated department where births are barely enough to renew the population.
Attracting workers is one of the main challenges of this territory which has many assets to showcase, particularly its standard of living. The poverty rate is one of the weakest of France.
