The concert hall, coupled with the Cité de la Musique – which is blowing its 30 candles – was inaugurated on January 14, 2015. At the time, bad tongues predicted a desertion of the Music lover public used to the Pleyel room located in the CUP district of the 8th arrondissement.
Ten years later, with its room which took the name of composer Pierre Boulez (2,400 to 3,600 places), the Philharmonie “is one of the most frequented rooms in the world by artists“, according to Olivier Mantei, the general manager of the Philharmony of Paris.
The building, and its 340,000 aluminum birds that cover it, has not always been unanimous. Very criticized before its construction, the symphonic room has become one of the most efficient in the world.
Episode 2 – L‘Exceptional acoustic of the large boulez stone room
Before making the Philharmonie his house, the Paris Orchestra played in the Pleyel hall. Today, Finnish conductor Klaus Makela and his musicians appreciate the acoustics of the Pierre Boulez room and share it with spectators of all ages.

Episode 4 – A place of culture and musical curiosities: the City of Music
For 30 years, thousands of rare and unusual instruments have been exhibited in the Musée de la Cité de la Musique, located a few steps from the Philharmonie de Paris. In addition to being a place entirely dedicated to music and a media library, it is also a laboratory to study and maintain ancient instruments.
