On January 22, on Instagram, Princess Diana's brother sent his congratulations to his nephew, the Duke of Sussex, after his victory against the owner of News Group Newspapers.
Twenty-six years after her death, Diana's name continues to be associated with the dangers caused by the relentlessness of the paparazzi. The princess, who died in a car accident on August 31, 1997 while trying to escape photographers, suffered them most of her adult life. His son's victory against the tabloid owner The Sun therefore constitutes post-mortem reparation.
Prince Harry's victory
On January 22, Prince Harry won his lawsuit against News Group Newspapers (NGN), which owns the tabloid. The Duke of Sussex engaged in a legal battle against the tabloid The Sun pour “illegal collection of information”. The group owned by billionaire Rupert Murdoch therefore recognized “the serious intrusion of The Sun newspaper between 1996 and 2011 into his private life, including incidents linked to illegal activities carried out by private investigators working for The Sun”.
In addition to an eight-figure check, NGN also apologized “for phone hacking, surveillance and misuse of private information by journalists and private investigators commissioned by them at the News of the World”. The group also recognized the significant impact this cover had on the prince's life “as well as that of Diana, Princess of Wales, his late mother, particularly during her younger years”.
-Congratulations from Charles Spencer
Faced with his nephew's victory, Charles Spencer, Diana's brother, publicly congratulated him. The same day of the verdict announced by Charles III's lawyer, the count published a few words on Instagram, accompanied by a screenshot of the news relayed by the BBC.
“It takes enormous courage to take on large media organizations like this, and incredible tenacity to win against them,” he wrote. It's wonderful that Harry has also secured an apology for his mother – she would be immensely touched, I'm sure, and also rightly proud. Well done, really.”
