“Welcome to Brest, it’s my city, it’s my home; summer autumn winter, in one day there are three seasons…” If you take the time to listen to the song by Armel N’Guessan, aka Armel LeMalabar on social networks, you risk having it in your head a good part of the day. “My dream would be for it to be broadcast on a match day at the Francis-Le Blé stadium for the players’ entry,” smiles the 25-year-old young man.

We met him in December 2022. He told us about his journey strewn with pitfalls, from the Ivory Coast to France, and therefore Brest. Undocumented, he took advantage of his successful videos to earn some money, which was very useful for paying his rent. “Today all that is behind me,” says the adopted Brest resident. I am proud of my journey. Life is beautiful, I have my papers, a job, accommodation, friends…” And a joy of living that he now transmits in music.
“This city has something inexplicable”
Why this tribute in Brest? “I had to leave the city to go work in Laval for a year. I came back last October. I missed Brest, this city has something inexplicable… It’s not necessarily beautiful, but I feel good there, I’m comfortable there, I have loved ones there… I wanted to do a humorous song. I talk about rain, yes, “but it’s the best”, as I wrote. We have the sea, beautiful beaches around. I want to value it. »

Welcome to Brest was released at the end of December on different platforms, the clip has just been shared. The comedian performs in different places in the city. “I was unable to find partners, I financed everything alone. »
He made this video “above all for the Bretons, in particular the Brestois”.
A much wider audience has already been able to listen to excerpts of the song, Armel LeMalabar being followed by more than 500,000 people on its various social networks. Networks where he has found inspiration since his return to the city of Ponant.
This year, he hopes to bring another project to fruition. “I want to tackle the stage, I really like stand-up. I can make people laugh in videos, why not try doing it directly during a show? »
