Among the most beautiful parks in is Parc Monceau, located between the 8th and 17th arrondissements. With its antique columns, its pond and its small waterfall, it is a perfect stroll to take for Valentine’s Day.

The Monceau park is undeniably THE perfect garden for lovers in Paris, with its ancient columns and its mysterious settings hidden among the vegetation. Originally, Parc Monceau was a green space created for Louis-Philippe d’Orléans, by the painter Carmontelle, in 18th century. A true ode to excess, it must have contained caves, a mill, a pagoda, a temple…

Finally left abandoned, a second park was created on the same location in 1860. Less incredible, it remains one of the favorite parks of Parisians, for its beauty and calm. On the border between the 8th and 17th arrondissement, Parc Monceau is a so-called “parkEnglish style“, with one side country et romanticespecially when you venture near its colonnades.

At the northern entrance to the park, rue de Courcelleswe find a neoclassical rotundasurrounded by a peristyle of 16 columns, of great beauty. This Greek inspiration finds himself in the centerpiece of the park, the I leave it to you. It is one of the elements of the original park, which consists of a pond surrounded by a colonnade. At first glance, one might believe it to be an old ancient ruinbut this is not the case. This colonnade which dates from the 16th century is a vestige of the Valois rotunda.

To continue this little stroll outside of time, we discover little hidden treasures Egyptians, such as a pyramid, an obelisk or even a sarcophagus, saved from the first park. As we walk, numerous marble statuesin honor of writers and musicians or mythical allegories from ancient times. Some real ruins also exist, such as an arcade or two pairs of columns dating from the 19th century.
