It has already been almost a quarter of a century since Chan Detourst has found a place of choice among the Toulouse festivals. The festival dedicated to French-speaking song returns for a 24e edition, from January 25 to February 8, 2025.
Détours de chant, an adventure started 23 years ago
“This adventure started 23 years ago: it all started from‘Hervé Suhubiette which offered singing workshops and worked with its singers on songs by Anne Sylvestre. One day, he asked Anne Sylvestre to come for the end-of-year concert and the idea of creating a small festival was born,” says Michèle Rivayrol, the president of the association which organizes the festival.
“The name of the festival comes from a show by Anne Sylvestre, which subsequently became the godmother of the festival“, she adds. Initially, the festival only lasted two or three days but over the years, it has expanded and now takes place over two weeks. And this year again, there are many artists to discover!
Magyd Cherfi, Nach, and Claire Dizerti as headliners
“In this festival, we really like to discover emerging artists that we spotted. We present 40 artistes in around twenty different locations in Toulouse and the metropolitan area. And we always have a few headliners with artists with a more identified repertoire“, underlines Michèle Rivayrol.
This year, the festival is bringing the singer After : a complete artist with a golden voice, the one who is also the sister of Mathieu Cheddid will be on the Bascala stage on January 31. While this edition gives pride of place to women, you should also not miss the arrival of Claire Diterzi at L’Escale (January 25 and 26), where the singer will perform with the Tournefeuille Symphony Orchestra.
Finally, among the known faces this year, the inevitable Magyd Cerfithe ex-singer of Zebda, will be responsible for closing the festival at the Théâtre des Mazades on February 8.
-Many discoveries
But Détours de chant is also an opportunity to make great discoveries, like Leila Huyssoud, formerly on The Voice and who has since built a great reputation on stage. She will be in concert at La Cabane on January 26.
Also featured on The Voice and widely followed on social networks, Lake Geneva – who was in the spotlight thanks to his dramatic cover of La Danse des Canards – will be in concert two evenings in a row at the Bijou, on January 30 and 31.
Not to be missed either, the trio Iarosswhose style joyfully mixes song, rock and jazz… A group to also discover at the Bijou, on January 28 and 29.
The singer Carmen Maria Vega she will be in concert at the Henri Desbals cultural center on February 5, 2025.
Local artists on stage
Toulouse artists are not left out. Besides Magyd Cherfi, Claire Gimatt (January 28 at the Théâtre du Pavé), the Trash Crusts (January 24 at the Tjéâtre des Mazades) or even Your mother’s sons (Manu Galure, Simon Chouf and Gaël Carigand – January 26 at Flashback Café), Anita (January 30 at La Pause Musicale – Salle du Sénéchal), LMA, Jhansi (1is February at the Bijou) and many others will be programmed as part of this festival which, as you will have understood – invites discovery and eclecticism!
