The Super League resumes this weekend. Yverdon-Sport returns to the pitch with one objective in mind: maintenance.
The championship resumes this Sunday for the Nord-Vaudois. They will travel to Letzigrund to face FC Zurich. A recovery after a somewhat complicated first part of the season and end-of-year celebrations. In the ranking, YS is in 10th place with 17 points. The Yverdonois have only won four times in 18 matches. The fortress they had created at the Municipal Stadium has become more than passable.
Result: Alessandro Mangiarratti was fired before Christmas. Paolo Tramezzani is now coaching the team. But the players also have their part to play. During the last match before the winter break (0-1 defeat against Sion), Paul Bernardoni explained to us that they all had to look in the mirror and do their self-criticism. Does the goalie feel like anything has changed in the group dynamic during this break?
During the meeting organized on Thursday with the club and the media, Paul Bernardoni also gave credit to the training camp carried out in Portugal at the very beginning of the year. “Meeting up and being together 24 hours a day allows you to get to know each other,” he explains.
With this series of poor results, the people of Yverdon have become stuck in a sort of vicious circle. “But I think we got into it a little on our own at times,” says the doorman. “We saw stupid things, contentious decisions, goals. Even though it’s you and your head, you and your mentality .” He also stressed that with his teammates, “we know how to say things to each other”. So did they put everything they had in their hearts on the table?
“He asks us to complain less”
Paul Bernardoni admits to being impatient to return to competition. The wait was even longer for the Frenchman as he had never experienced such a long winter break. “We want to tear it up in this second part of the season,” he smiles.
-The Yverdonnois can count on the experience of a new coach to achieve their goals. Paolo Tramezzani knows the Super League well with stints at Lugano and especially Sion. Even though the coach hasn’t been there for long, we can already feel some changes.
What is asked of the transalpine technician is to keep the team in the Super League. A challenge that pleases him.
With this experience, what does he hope to bring to the club?
On Sunday, YS resumes the championship with a big match against FC Zurich, away. A meeting that will serve as a test. “We will try to understand our limits, where we must improve. Even for me, to see what is the right direction to take,” explains Paolo Tramezzani. The message that the coach is trying to send to the players to start this second part of the season in the best way? “Make the guys feel like we have confidence in them.” Kick-off at 2:15 p.m.
