The president of the Conference of Bishops of Eric de Moulins-Beaufort announced this Friday, January 17 on RMC that he had “seized justice” Tuesday to ask him to open an investigation into Abbé Pierre. Since July, testimonies and documents have been pouring out on sexual assaults and rapes committed by the priest, long a favorite personality of the French.

“I wrote a report to the prosecutor to ask him to consider opening an investigation into Abbé Pierre” in order to “to be able to investigate possible other victims or possible accomplices” or on “non-denunciations”he added, repeating his “horror” after new revelations of sexual violence this week targeting the priest. The Conference had, from the publication of the first facts, assured in a tweet its “deep compassion” to the victims andhis shame that such acts could be committed by a priest.” The Church itself was criticized for having been aware of the priest’s actions, from its top.

The opening of the investigation coincides with the publication of a third report by the Emmaus movement, reporting additional testimonies against the priest who died in 2007. And in particular a rape committed against a minor and incestuous attacks.
