Veteran British filmmaker Ridley Scott has for the moment given up on his film project about the famous disco group the Bee Gees.

In an interview given a few days ago to the magazine GQthe director of Gladiator and of Alien indicated that he was unable to reach a financial agreement with the Paramount studio which produced the film.

“The studio changed the terms of the agreement,” explained Ridley Scott. I told them they couldn’t do that. They continued as I warned them that I was going to drop the project and move on to my next film. They didn’t believe me, so I did it.

“I was asked to make too many concessions,” he added later. I told them: no, next! They didn’t like the terms of the deal I offered them so I moved on. I’m expensive, but I’m good.”

The 87-year-old filmmaker, however, assures that the door is not completely closed. He does not rule out the possibility of revisiting this project after having shot his next film, an apocalyptic thriller entitled The Dog Stars.

According to the magazine VarietyRidley Scott could also shoot the film on the Bee Gees next fall, that is to say immediately after having completed the filming of The Dog Stars.

Ridley Scott has wanted to make a film about the rise of the Bee Gees for several years. He even approached the group’s founding members, the Gibb brothers, in the 1970s to talk about a biographical drama project. Remember that the Bee Gees enjoyed dazzling success in the 1970s thanks to their disco hits Stayin’ Alive et Night Fever.

“I like the working-class side of Bee Gees,” said Ridley Scott. There is also the competition between the brothers which is interesting. They lost Andy, who overdosed at age 30. It’s more a question of talent than luck. It’s a fantastic story.”
