For more than forty years, the Puces de la Cité has been held on the second Sunday of each month in the eponymous district, at the foot of the cathedral. At the start of 2025, they are innovating by changing their scope for a day. In anticipation of the renovation and beautification work on Boulevard de la Corderie, carried out by Limoges Métropole and the City and which should soon start with the first archaeological surveys (the boulevard will be closed to traffic from this Monday, January 13), second-hand dealers and their loyal customers have taken over the gardens of the Bishopric. A beautiful setting that offers the space necessary for discovery and a stroll with family or friends.
This is a first and everyone will have to make their mark. Around 85 second-hand dealers, out of the hundred exhibitors present this Sunday – there are on average 130 – unpacked on the various esplanades of the gardens. Enough to highlight their objects and furniture, and allow more fluid circulation of customers. For the organizers, the operation also brings significant advantages.
Only advantages
“The setting is nice and above all, there were zero pounds this morning!” Murielle Blain rejoiced this Sunday. The local residents are happy; the perimeter is easier to secure; and for us, there are fewer barriers to put in place on Saturday evening…”, she said. Only advantages, all in all. Something to think about and imagine perpetuating the location, well after the work. Enough to also have the desire to liven up this immense space. “We could organize a giant picnic on sunny days,” enthused the organizer, relieved that for this first, the sun would be there.
An enthusiasm shared by regulars who, for some, saw the benefit of parking nearby without too much difficulty; and enjoyed the Sunday walk. It remains to be seen how the arteries normally occupied by second-hand dealers will be in two years. “We don’t know what it’s going to be like after the renovation and greening,” admitted Murielle Blain.
Until then, she hopes that this new framework which offers more space will appeal to other professionals.
