Dexter is dead, but in fact not since the character will return in two spin-off series, including a sequel with Michael C. Hall and other actors from the original series. Warning spoilers on Dexter et Dexter : New Blood !
Eight seasons (including at least four too many), then the revival, then the prequel and now the sequel… Dexter is far from having dismembered his last corpse given that Showtime Still Not Ready to Let Its Serial Killer Die. However, after the controversial finale of the main series, in which the former forensic expert fakes his death and goes to live incognito in Oregon, Dexter : New Blood had (literally) corrected the situation by killing Michael C. Hall’s anti-hero.
Except that there is an unspoken rule: as long as a character is not calcined, decapitated, dismembered and buried with proof in the image, there are chances (or risks) that at any moment the screenwriters will brought back from the dead. So as improbable as it is, Dexter Morgan will survive his bullet in the chest at the last minute to continue his adventures in Dexter : Resurrection. He will still be played by Michael C. Hall, who will give voice to two other actors from the cult series from the 2000s.
DEXTER : THE LAST BLOOD
Let’s recap: after the end of the main series, the character changed his identity and started a new life in New Bloodwhere he also found his son Harrison, who had become a teenager. At the end of New BloodHarrison realizes that his father is a killer and not a vigilante and shoots him dead with a rifle. Except that Dexter : Original Sin tells us that he is not completely dead, since he is taken to the hospital where he remembers his youth and the development of the famous Code of his father, Harry. He will finally be saved and will therefore continue his run (and certainly his murders) in Dexter : Resurrection.
Given that the upcoming series will follow the events of New BloodHarrison will be back as well as his interpreter Jack Alcott. Likewise, as Angel Batista learned in the revival that his former colleague was still alive (in addition to being the Butcher of Bay Harbor), he will also be back in Resurrectionstill in the guise of David Zayas according to information reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
We can guess that he will seek to arrest his former friend for the murders he committed, but also to elucidate that of his ex-wife, Maria LaGuertathe former Miami police captain who Debra killed to protect her brother’s secret.
As for Debra, if Jennifer Carpenter’s (well and truly dead) character has for a time replaced Harry in Dexter’s mind, that’s good. his father who will resume his place as a moralizing ghost in the sequel. He will once again be played by James Remar. Although nothing else has been announced yet, we can imagine that Angela Bishop (Julia Jones), Dexter’s new girlfriend and now ex, will also be back given that she helped Harrison to flee and gave the impression of wanting to take responsibility for his crime in his place.
For now, the prequel Dexter : Original Sinwhich began its broadcast in the United States should be released on Canal + in France from February. On the other hand, no French (and American) release date has been announced for Dexter : Resurrection which should begin filming later this year.
